The Polar Bear was situated at 30 Lisle Street. Once known as the White Bear, it has now re-opened as the Ku Bar.

In the 1970s I used to take the family laundry to the Little Newport Street Laundrette. The 'girls' there would keep an eye on the washer whilst you popped over to the Bear for a pint and a sandwich for lunch. If you were a bit late back they'd have put your load into the dryer for you.
