Harrow Tavern
|
|
|
The Harrow Tavern was situated on Harrow Road,
between Flamsted Avenue and Bovingdon Avenue. The
pub was
closed in the 1990s, and is now used as an old
folks home. |
|
This was the first pub, on the Harrow Road, you would come
across if you came off the North circular Road and was a popular meeting
place for fans on their way to Wembley Stadium.
I can remember the landlord suddenly realising in the early 70s that he
could make a few bob by charging fans to park their cars in the large car
park that straddled the front and sides of the pub.

This was the day my husband and I
got married and we had our wedding reception at the Harrow Tavern. The
cost of a sherry on arrival, a sit down meal for 35 people, and wine,
mock champagne, and private bar came to £41. |

My Uncle Harry Hill ran this pub. I
remember visiting him and his wife there when I was a little girl. I
thought a very fine and impressive place!!! My mum Joyce Hill worked
there briefly as a waitress. Harry's first wife was May and his second
was Lillian. My granddad, Alfred Alby Hill often used to drink there. |

I used to use the pub regularly and knew
Harry and Joyce well. I used to live in Wiggington Avenue. |
