Harrow Tavern

The Harrow Tavern was situated on Harrow Road, between Flamsted Avenue and Bovingdon Avenue. The pub was closed in the 1990s, and is now used as an old folks home.

This was the first pub, on the Harrow Road, you would come across if you came off the North circular Road and was a popular meeting place for fans on their way to Wembley Stadium. I can remember the landlord suddenly realising in the early 70s that he could make a few bob by charging fans to park their cars in the large car park that straddled the front and sides of the pub.

Beryl Banks 1956 This was the day my husband and I got married and we had our wedding reception at the Harrow Tavern. The cost of a sherry on arrival, a sit down meal for 35 people, and wine, mock champagne, and private bar came to £41.
Eileen Spender 1940s/50s My Uncle Harry Hill ran this pub. I remember visiting him and his wife there when I was a little girl. I thought a very fine and impressive place!!! My mum Joyce Hill worked there briefly as a waitress. Harry's first wife was May and his second was Lillian. My granddad, Alfred Alby Hill often used to drink there.
Reg Tranfield 1940s/50s I used to use the pub regularly and knew Harry and Joyce well. I used to live in Wiggington Avenue.
