This was a double height pub. The baroom was twice as high as you would
expect. The gents were a point-at-the-wall out the back. The ladies had to
climb the open stairs within the bar to a balcony at the back on the first
floor where they were able to look down on everybody else. The toilets were
off that. Had quite a name for itself in the later 70's as a venue for the
newly fashionable Real Ale. In 1972 I, along with my friend Martin Hall,
went to every pub in Yarmouth and Gorleston and scored each for atmosphere,
beer quality and general impression. The Talbot came in joint top. along
with the original (Back to) Backs (Prince Regent), out of over 100 pubs. |
