The Kings Head was situated on Norwich
Road and is now a private dwelling. This pub closed in 1956. |

Florence Wilkerson was landlady in
1940s. There was an open porch centre front and there was a bus stop for
Eastern Counties buses. Inside central hallway, bar first on left, ‘cellar’
second on left with barrels on racks. Private accommodation on right hand
side of hallway. |

My aunt Flo was the landlady here for
many years during and after the war. I had many holidays there until I left
school. Uncle Bob was the original landlord ,but was unfortunately killed at
the rear of the premises while making hurdles. During the war it was packed
with the RAF from the local base, at times they were founded drinking in the
bedrooms, so Uncle Bob put a gate at the foot of stairs to stop it. There
was a searchlight in the nearby meadow, and the corporal in charge took me
there and showed me how it all worked, I well remember the powerful beam. I
have many wonderful memories of my holidays there. Happy days. |
