Kings Head

The Kings Head was situated at 15 Back Street. This pub closed in 2009 and is now in residential use. It was present by 1614 when it was mentioned in a boundary dispute between Sir Henry Hobart of St Faith's Manor and Lord Dacre of Horsford
I was taken there often in my childhood, often sitting in the back room with a red drink and threepenny bag of crisps while my grandparents sat inside, my grandad playing cribbage with the men, my grandmother chatting with the women.
I recall once walking the counter as a young child to draw a raffle. The publican’s daughter, a beautiful girl a few years older than me, was a regular visitor to our home, and often my companion as we played in the yard in summer, making dens from beer crates. She was a bridesmaid at a family wedding.
