The Kings Head was situated at 15 Back
Street. This pub closed in 2009 and is now in residential use. It was
present by 1614 when it was mentioned in a boundary dispute between Sir
Henry Hobart of St Faith's Manor and Lord Dacre of Horsford |

I was taken there often in my
childhood, often sitting in the back room with a red drink and threepenny
bag of crisps while my grandparents sat inside, my grandad playing cribbage
with the men, my grandmother chatting with the women.
I recall once walking the counter as a young child to draw a raffle. The
publican’s daughter, a beautiful girl a few years older than me, was a
regular visitor to our home, and often my companion as we played in the yard
in summer, making dens from beer crates. She was a bridesmaid at a family
wedding. |
