My Grandfather was the publican of the Prince of
wales in Finedon in the 1920's until his death 1942. "Tom" as he was known
had been a brewery sales rep until he took on the Pub - approx Late 20's.He
was a Bell Ringer of some repute at the Local Cathedral and won an Olympics
Silver Medal in the London 1908 Games for Javelin -referee. Also a Chairman
of the Northamptonshire Licensed trades Association - We have his Medal for
Past Chairman 1937. He was well known around town for wearing plus fours,
leather jacket & cap with goggles - driving his motorcycle & side car -
doing his rounds to to areas pubs.
My Late father who was born in the pub - migrated to Australia 1956, but
regularly visited his home and relatives- at last a few years ago. Saddened
to see it being converted but glad it still stands. I'd love to know the
street address as I'm doing some research ??
His nephew was also born in the pub and lived their until his father , my
Uncle returned from the War. He still lives in the area. |
