The Samson Inn was situated on the B6318. This pub closed in October 2022.
Originally a coaching inn established in the 17th C, the pub, was rebuilt
and re-branded after a famous Steam Engine, when the railways arrived. The
Newcastle-Carlisle line passes close by. Currently the Community is
attempting to raise funds to run it as a Community Pub. |

The Gilsland Community Benefit Society has been
successful in its application for funding from the Government's Community
Ownership Fund and is to receive £215,839. Coupled with the oversubscribed
Community share issue of £140k, the Society hopes to complete the purchase
by May 2024 and re-open the pub and accommodation. |
