Three Magpies

The Three Magpies, Benton Lane, Longbenton was a 1960's era pub demolished
circa 2003, and replaced by modern apartments when when much of the council
estate was redeveloped for private housing. It was previously known as The
Rocket (the relevance being that George Stephenson lived at Dial Cottage in
the nearby village of Killingworth; indeed, Robert Stephenson was even
schooled in Longbenton itself) but by the late 80's had developed a very
grim reputation that it was never really able to shake off. |
