The Pauncefote Arms was situated on
Fosse Road. This pub was used as an Indian restaurant then later converted
to residential use. |

In 1965 I was a trainee pilot at RAF
Syerston, 2 miles down the A46. Inevitably we used to frequent this pub.
Often, my instructor (Angus Clydesdale) would join us and treat us to large
amounts of beer. Angus, or to give his full title - Flight Lieutenant The
Marquis of Douglas And Clydesdale, went on to be the Duke of Hamilton on his
father’s death. He was a very nice guy. He often said he joined the RAF
because the Army and the Navy were “a bit rough”. |

Work carried out in the car park during building
work in 2015 revealed a human skull which could be part of an ancient burial

We used to have fishing matches at east stoke waterfall. we would then
have a meal at this pub. We came from Sheffield, the road was known as
the Leicester road as the a46 bypass wasn't built |
