The Nags Head was situated on Westgate.
The original Nags Head was built c1700. It had a row of beautiful 17th
century houses, along with a well and stables in the yard behind. It was
demolished in 1875 to be replaced by
a substantial Victorian building. This was also demolished
and the site redeveloped
for retail in 1975 but the stone frontage with horses heads was retained.
The last of the old houses were demolished in the 1930s and it's well was
covered over. |
