The Tower

Date of photo: 1971

The Tower was situated on Broad Marsh. This pub was demolished in 1971.

In the late 60s they were once ripped of by a little old lady who came in with a large bag/sack of brown ale bottles ( John Smiths Double Brown ) in those days you paid a deposit on all off sales. She had a drink and left with a nice amount of cash in her purse . It was a short while later that we found someone had left the yard gate open and she had sold us our own bottles .The landlord was quiet upset at the time but he still laughed and talked about it for months afterward.
