Old Plough

Date of photo: 2004

The Old Plough was situated on Park Lane. This pub closed in 2004 by which time it was known as The Poachers Arms.

From The Good Pub Guide 1983:
The cheap bar food is good value in this very friendly and well-kept pub, recently extended. It includes filled rolls (from 27p), beefburger (37p), steak sandwich (54p), steak and kidney pie (95p), and meat and other salads (£1.75). The modern lounge bar has comfortabl, plush button-back banquettes and stools around its glossily polished tables, and a few bird prints on the cream walls; the public bar, with an attractively tiled floor, has a large collection of china boots and shoes behind the serving counter, and darts. Well-kept Shipstones Local and Mild on handpump; piped music. From the picnic-tables sets on the small sheltered lawn, open behind to the fields, you can hear bantam cocks crowing.
