Three Horseshoes

The Three Horseshoes closed in 2006. It has since been demolished and replaced by housing.

When we were first married in 1971, we moved to this tiny village and this pub was our local. A very friendly group of people, though it didn't look anything like the picture. This was pre renovations, when there were several different rooms.
I remember that in those days, the local police didn't have radios, so they used to park outside, opposite to use the local red telephone box. If we were staying "after hours" the landlord would close the curtains, put a tea cloth over the small window in the front door and we would party. One night, the policeman came knocking and the landlord, quick as a flash said to everybody - put your drinks behind the bar right now and start stripping the wallpaper!
So we did. The policeman was let in, the landlord explained that we had all very kindly agreed to stay behind to help him get the pub ready for redecorating.....
There was no answer to that of course, so off he went - and we carried on!
The landlord did have to decorate though after that!
