building details: |
Inn. Late C16; restored to original
form and rear wing added, 1938. Timber framed, rendered, with pantile roofs.
2 storeys plus garrets, 2 gabled bays, L-plan. Main east front has, to left,
canted corner flanked by jowled timber posts with strapwork panels, framing
glazing bar fixed light. To right, a similar glazing bar fixed light; to its
right, 2 leaf door with bracketed hood; beyond, 3 glazing bar lights, and
beyond again, door flanked by 2 jowled timber posts with strapwork panels.
Above, to left, gabled oriel window on brackets, with 7 C20 casements; to
right, 2 glazing bar casements, and beyond, gabled oriel window on stepped
brackets, with 10 glazing bar casements.
Above again, right gable has single Yorkshire sash. Southern rear wing,
coursed squared rubble, timber framing, rendering, with ashlar dressings, 2
storeys, 3 bays, has 2 mullioned and 7 plain casements, and to right,
moulded ashlar doorway with hood. Interior has 5 moulded span beams and
moulded joists, section of linenfold panelling with naturalistic frieze, and
above, 3 rooms
with framed oak panelling, moulded span beams and moulded plaster cornices.
Central room has C17 panelled overmantel with chip-carving and naturalistic
frieze. 2 unusual C17 7 panelled doors, and one C18 plank door. Above again,
spiral oak staircase with square newel. Principal rafter roof with strutted
tenoned purlins. |
