The Elephant & Castle was situated on
Bridge Street. This grade-II listed
building was a former Halls
Brewery Inn and is now a private house, which still retains its plaque to
the right of the entrance. |

Review from tantallon.org.uk: |
Free House
Bampton in the Bush, or Bampton Castle (as it's known due to one of the
Henrys having stayed at Ham Court, a disappointing country house round the
corner) is some sort of pub heaven. This is a pleasantish, dark and beamed
genuinely old pub with a yard out the back, and beyond that a wee garden.
The beer is very pleasant, and the decoration doesn't stretch much beyond a
few brasses, an old map of Oxfordshire marking the hundreds, a calendar, and
a huge price list. Yes.
