The White Lion was situated on the High
Street. This pub is now in residential use. |

This pub holds a very special memory
for me. In 1973, I was a 15 year old schoolboy from nearby Radley College
bicycling through the lanes with my friend Rory when we came across the
White Lion. I remember we bought halves of bitter (pints seemed a bit too
much for our adolescent sensibilities!) and were not challenged about our
ages and then spent a very pleasant afternoon playing bar billiards. It must
have been before pubs had all day opening so we were probably there at about
lunchtime on a Saturday or maybe it was a Sunday. Anyway, it was my very
first (illegal) experience of going into a pub as a teenager without any
adult present. Quite a significant memory I would say. |
