The Crown was situated on Gangsdown Hill. |

Despite being on a main road, near a
prestigious golf club and a National Trust property and on the Ridgeway
national trail, the Crown has closed after several off-on periods over the
past 10 or more years. |

We moved into the area in 1985 and soon
discovered the Crown pub at Nuffield as a friendly and cosy place – more of
a small restaurant than a pub as it was so small. It was run at that time by
a delightful couple who had built their own 3 wheeler kit car (blue as I
recall). When they left, it had a series of staff who never really captured
the essence of this local. It would be great to see it open again but with
COVID-19 2 metre restrictions, I would guess it could fit only 6 tables
inside. |
