The Dog & Partridge was situated at 35
Broad
Street at the junction with Park Street. This pub opened in 1587 as The
Princes Arms; the first publican being John Carter. It was renamed The Dog &
Partidge in 1753 and almost entirely reconstructed in 1881, then renamed The
Coach & Horses in 1882 after Elizabeth Gilbert moved from The Coach & Horses
in Holywell. The pub was demolished in 1937 with the New Bodleian Library
built on the site. |
