The Swan & Castle was situated at 43 Castle Street.  This pub was present by 1823 and closed in 1968.  Known earlier as the Three Horseshoes and demolished in 1970 to make way for County Hall. In 2009, a modern block was erected at 40 Castle Street, home to a Wetherspoon's, the Swan & Castle.
