White Hart

The White Hart was situated at 291 Banbury Road, on the corner with Albert (now Hobson Road). This pub has now been demolished.

One of my distant relatives ran this pub in the early 20th century. The family were at 291 Banbury Road in the 1901 census, and it was certainly a pub by 1908 because there is a newspaper report of a drunken customer assaulting the landlord (my relative) a one Percy Jones. Percy was still landlord there in the 1921 census and in 1929 at the time of his wife's death. He died in 1937 but by then he was landlord of the Anchor in Hayfield Road. However the White Hart was still going as his son (also a Percival) was landlord in the 1939 census,
