Crown Inn

|
The Crown
Inn was situated on Stonor Road.
This grade-II listed
pub
closed in March 2020 during Covid and was put up for sale in 2021. The
accompanying thatched barn and stables are also Grade II listed.
|
An entry in the 2012 "Good Beer Guide" described
its history as featuring "smuggling, murder, religious conflict, seductive
wenches and a ghost".
The property was purchased by "Pablo Diablo's Legitimate Business Firm Ltd",
owned by the entertainer and activist, Russell Brand, whose application to
turn it into a recording studio, and office space for his independent video
series, a community hub in the barn and food and drink outlet in the
stables, was rejected by South Oxfordshire Planning Committee objections
from locals and professionals in the pub sector, including 53 from
neighbours. It was said the proposals would in no way compensate for the
loss of the pub. The application provided no evidence to show it was
economically unviable as a pub. |
