The Crown Inn was situated at 19-23 Crown Road. This 16th century coaching inn closed c1938. The arch led to a large yard used as a monthly cattle market and the occasional travelling fair. There was an alley with direct access to Church Road. When the coach route diverted c1800 The Crown Tap was opened opposite the end of the alley to try to hold on to the trade.
