The Horse & Panniers was a late 17th or early 18th century grade-II listed former pub. Perhaps originally a farmhouse but formerly the Horse and Panniers public house. Known locally as the 'Nag and Bag' in May 2004 it was reported as 'just re-opened then in May 2009 a picture appears of 'the new landlord' and by September 2011 was re-opened again after an 18 month closure. The pub was for sale in late 2012 and then the building was for sale in 2014 as a development project. Directory entries for Horse and Panniers include; 1846-1858 Mrs Hannah Walker; 1861-1877 Edward Walker (& baker); 1880-1881 Mrs Jane Walker; 1891-1899 Richard Chapman; 1908-1912 Ernest Cole; 1916 Henry Gandy. (My directories before 1846 don't include the Luffenhams).

I remember drinking there in the 1970s with a friend who lived in NL. It was a Ruddles pub (like many in Rutland in those days). It had a mechanical darts scoring machine that you dialled in your score and it subtracted it from the remaining score. A system of dials that looked like the old-style telephones.
