The Crown was situated
on Shrewsbury Road. A grade-II listed
pub. |

building details: |
House, now inn. Late C17, remodelled
mid-C18 with later additions and alterations. Timber-framed with rendered
and painted brick infill, rebuilt in painted brick on rendered sandstone
plinth to front and right gable end; slate roofs. Two storeys with
continuous floor bands to main range. Framing: exposed to rear of main range
and lower range to left; square panels on first floor of former and
rectangular panels to first floor of latter, which has king post and raking
struts from tie beam to principal rafters visible beneath render to gable
end. Three mid-C20 casements to main range and two to lower range, those to
ground floor in C18 segmental-headed openings. Central C20 boarded door in
plain pilastered surround to main range with integral end stack to left and
external end stack to right. C19 stables attached to left of lower range and
mid-C19 additions to rear of main range. Included for group value. |
