The Greyhound Inn was situated on Holyhead Road
and is now a pizza parlour. |

In 1840 The owner of this pub was my gt
gt gt gt gt grandfather Robert Eardley. When the railway came in the 19 th
century a tunnel was dug nearby and he supplied the candles for the workmen.
Also apparently there had been robberies at coaching inns at the time ,
burglars would hide in trunks and come out at night and rob the
household. They got a very large trunk delivered and they sat up all night
watching it but nothing happened! |

This used to be a calling in pub on the
way down to Oakengates from my home. The indifferent beer & surly staff
meant you didn't stop for long, & everyone stopped going - not at all
surprised when it became a pizza outlet. A pity, as it had an interesting
history. |
