George Hotel

The George Hotel was situated on The Square. In a photograph about 1920 it has a sign ‘George Hotel Good Stabling’ and in 1965 the building is shown with 'The George House' name boards. Google Street View in March 2009 shows Alder King Property Consultants here and by August 2011 it appears to be empty. It seems to be last sold November 2012. In March 2015 it was reported that it was opened by the Mayor and Mayoress of Axbridge as home to Lavender and Co and George House Antiques. Ripley Antiques & Vintage facebook page was created in August 2017 and in July 2016 Google shows it still as George House Antiques. Consulting directories for ‘George’ I find; 1842-1852 William H Day, George (& excise office); 1889 Thomas Cook, George Inn, Market Place; 1897-1914 John Lane, The George P.H., Market Place; 1919 Thomas Dodd, George P.H., Market Place; 1939 Walter Webber, George Hotel.
