The George Inn was a 17th century coaching inn located on Fore Street. This pub has now been converted into two private dwellings.

This coaching inn which was built in the early 17th century (first recorded in 1619) and later altered to add an assembly room in which monthly petty sessions were held during the 19th century. It was located in Fore Street, the main thoroughfare, beside a bridge over the Parrett River. The primary route between the towns of Taunton and Bridgwater included a tortuous course through the village of North Petherton, so the George Inn would appear to have been favourably located. In 1814 the inn was sold as the asset of a bankruptcy proceeding and its newspaper advertisementprovides a full description: "All that old-established and well-accustomed inn called The George Inn, North Petherton in the county of Somerset, adjoining the Great Western Road; consisting of 3 parlours, a larder, bar, large kitchen, back kitchen, scullery with spring water pump, 9 good bedrooms, an assembly room 23 feet by 20 feet, extensive yard, brew house with soft water pump and large furnaces in the same, cellars sufficient to contain 80 hogsheads of liquor, wine and spirit bins, coach house, an eight-stalled stable, another stable for 20 horses and an excellent garden. The George Hotel operated until the mid 1980s and was then converted into private residences.
