The Nags Head was situated at 16 Mill Street. This pub was known as The Water Mill at time of closure and is now used as a fish and chip shop.

This pub, together with The Rose & Crown, Etruria, had a connection in the personage of one Keith Webb. Both are closed now. Keith, who sadly passed away in 2007, had been a successful rock musician in the 60’s with most notably Terry Reid’s band http://kevdiary.blogspot.com/2007/05/keith-webb-professional-life.html and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paladin_(band).

With the cash from his Rock ‘n’ Roll, Keith purchased The Nag’s Head. He ran the Nag’s Head as a freehouse during the late 70’s early 80’s. The Nag’s Head became more than a local phenomenon not just for the beer – which was of course, the best of British – but because people got to know Keith would host some great music. He was well connected in the music business and could pull some top artists to the pub, he hosted an array of famous and once-famous rock musicians, notably in 1980, Dire Straits, with Mark Knopfler during their heyday when their hit The Sultans of Swing (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0ffIJ7ZO4U) made them household names worldwide. Also frequented by Terry Reid, the Climax Blues Band, Andy Richards who has music credits on numerous movies and others.
