The Sea Lion was situated on Waterloo Road.
As a small, kids, my family were tenants at this pub. It was
a compulsory purchase by the council in 1970 and closed that year. It was a
traditional old working mans traditional pub, end terrace, and had a snug
and bar only. Interesting fact, is that even in 1970, the bar was a male
only room, and a throwback to days gone. Have fond memories of it, and it
was replaced by a supermarket soon after demolition. Probably few people
alive today who remember it, but as a 5 year old kid attending Hill Top
school, I remember a group of old men drinking Guiness, who were veterans of
the Great war of 1914 – 18. |
