Mainwaring Arms

The Mainwaring Arms was situated on Whitmore Road. This pub closed in 2020.

From The Good Pub Guide 1983:
Up and down steps and through doors, several communicating rooms in this attractive stone building just across from the village church almost guarantee that you'll be able to find a quiet corner, even when it's crowded with its cheerful regular customers at weekends or in the evenings. Its simply but pleasantly furnished, with some old-fashioned settles, small armchairs, reproduction memorial brasses on one of its cream walls and red velvet curtains on stout rails. Well-kept Boddingtons, Marston's Burton and Pedigree, and their own Mainwaring (brewed by Winkle) on handpump; bar food includes a cold table with pork pie, ham, chicken or beef salads (from £1) and hot dishes such as cottage pie, chicken and mushroom or steak and kidney pie (from £1.80), served either with salad or a jacket potato. There is room to sit outside.
