Witching Hour

The Witching Hour was situated on Great Eastern Square. This pub closed in 1982.
I used to drink in The Witching Hour regularly in the late seventies/early eighties. It had brilliant beer and a great ‘all comers’ live music night on a Saturday. I recognise two of the people in the photo on your website. The bearded gent in the glasses is David Barber, a local ship’s chandler and the chap in the tweed jacket with his back to the camera is Ron Ellis, the landlord. Both are now sadly deceased. Ron was a spitfire pilot in world war II and knew Douglas Bader who I recall once visiting the pub. Ron had been awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal and had flown the aircraft that brought General De Gaulle to England following the German invasion of France. I was a very young man when I used to visit this pub but remember some great times, great beer and great music. This was where I learned to play cribbage!

Geoff Cole 1973/1976 During the construction of several dock building in the mid 1970s I regularly stayed at the Orwell Hotel. The Witching Hour was opposite and it was a great pub for Adnams beers (very rare outside that area in those days). We had many a pint of Adnams best. Wonderful.
Andrew Shaw 1972/1982 I spent many happy hours in the witching hour.Ron served the best pint in Felixstowe and the regulars were a varied and friendly bunch.
