The Lord Palmerston was situated on St
Matthews Street. This pub closed in 1962. |
|
My great-grandparents, James and
Florence Agnes Philpott, lived in and ran the pub in the late 19th century
and although James died in 1913, Florence continued to run the pub with her
daughters. Florence died in 1944 and the newspaper cutting for her death
says that she had lived at the Lord Palmerston for 63 years. I think her
daughter, Glady, took over the licence and ran the pub until it closed for
the redevelopment of the road |
