My wife and I were also bar and waiting staff there throughout the 90s and saw the introduction of alcopops such as Hooch and 2 dogs, along with K Cider and Smirnoff moscow mule. Becks was by far the biggest selling bottled bear, and the Worthington £1-a-pint was legendary among the old fellas and students. Steve Hetherington was the Landlord, and his girlfriend Sandy lived with him upstairs. The head barmaid was called Ali, and the cheeky cleaner, cook and glass collector was called Alex. We had some brilliant live music every week and a quiz now and again, and on weekends this place was heaving. I did all the chalk boards and signage, and also did the boards of the Swan, Mannings, O'Neills and Westerfield railway on occassion. Early 90s at least this was the place to go before Hollywood. ( Note: Lates 90 Steve H and Sandy moved on to manage the Wig and Pen on Colchester High street ).

Finuala Jameson 1989  I d like to contact Carrie, a red haired, lively, fun loving local girl who worked at the pub for summer of 1989 with myself. I worked there full time for about 6 months, April-September 1989. We dated Mike(me) n Dave (Carrie) from the U.S military base outside Ipswich.
