The Tankard Inn was situated at 13
Tacket Street. This pub opened in 1736, it was rebuilt in 1802 and 1843, and
finally closed in 1961. |

16th century building which was
refused permission for demolition due to its historical importance
(originally the mansion of Sir Anthony Wingfield - Vice Chamberlain, Captain
of the Guard and Privy Councillor for Henry VIII and Controller of the
household under Edward VI. Many alterations have been carried out to the
buildings interior and exterior. |
