The Chequers was situated at 220 High Street. This 17th century grade-II listed pub closed in 1999 and is now in residential use.

Listed building details:

Cottages formerly an Inn. Late C17. Timber framed and plastered with colour washed brick face. Plain tiled roof. One storey and attic. 3 windows: casements. 3 gable dormers: casements with glazing bars. 2 modern 4 panelled doors. Central brick stack.
