The Kings Head was situated at 130 Ash Street, next
door to Ash police station. |

I was born there in 1953, my parents ran the pub.The original King´s Head
was in a small house on the road, and when it first opened in 1854 it was
called The Railway Arms.It later moved to a larger building next door,
called the Poplars, back from the road, with a large beer garden. I don´t
know when it was last open, but it was still open in 1970-71, and was gone
by 1993. |

This pub has now been demolished and replaced by
flats. |

I was a regular at this pub during the 1980’s
and had my 40th birthday celebrations there. Publican was a London boy
called Peter…can’t remember his wife’s name Always appreciated the fact they
stocked Fosters and Swan Light just for this Aussie. I worked at Ash Vale at
a company called Clandon Scientific and often visited with other members of
staff. The pub features in my book of memoirs (Fake Fur) which also includes
other regulars such as Jackie and Kim |
