The White Lion Hotel was situated on
Portsmouth Road. This pub has now been converted into six apartments. |
|
A favourite in the early 60's. Three distinctly
different bars with the entrance to the public bar round the back. Had our
wedding reception here on 15th October 1966. Arranged the same morning for
10 of us! Also put £50 down as a deposit for our first house on the way
there. Total cost for the house £4,750. The White Lion sadly was renamed The
Vermont Exchange in the 70's. It was stripped of its character including all
the lovely dark wood panelling to leave exposed brick smothered in ‘bric a
brac’. – sacrilegious. |
