The Mariners was situated on the A287. This pub was previously known as The Three Mariners and latterly The Bridge At Pierrepoint.  Closed in 2012 it is currently being redeveloped.

Back in 1957 I was 18 and had started a Skiffle Group in Puttenham, a few miles away from Frensham and we were playing in local Pubs on a regular basis, The Good Intent and Jolly Farmer at Puttenham were weekly “Gigs” for our five man group which consisted of two acoustic Guitars, a Banjo, our base player, (T chest with a broom handle) and me on wash board. We travelled in my company’s Ford Van with all kit, band and two, sometimes three girls!
A friend of my family suggested that we call on the “Mariners" at Frensham as they might be interested in us playing there. We did exactly that and the Boss there said we could play down the the cellar among all the beer barrels. We did that every Friday night for about a year and the place would be crammed with people our age dancing and singing. It used to get very hot down there and so we played for as much beer as we could drink and £1 each.
