The Black Horse was situated at 55
Station Road. This pub closed in 2009 and is now used as a cafe/restaurant. |

Big pub with restaurant at the back but
a lovely bar always with a roaring fire and big dogs splayed out in front of
it. It was the venue for various car clubs and the bar would be heaving on
those nights with the hubbub of many conversations. A really cosy warm
refuge serving great ales including Youngs as it was on the far periphery of
the Youngs delivery routes. Much missed. It became Mulligans fish restaurant
for a while and is now Tilleys tea rooms. |

Through the 80s I lived and worked as a
musician in Frejus in The South of France and became friendly with a couple
called Malcolm and Jill who were, at the time, landlords of The Black Horse
near Gomshall Mill.
I would always visit them at the end of the Summer Season and stay and
perform live in the pub.
For my shame, I can’t remember their surnames but, I clearly remember how
beautiful it was/is and have great memories of Autumn nights and great
friends.
Does anyone remember them? |
