Ranmore Arms

The Ranmore Arms was situated on Crocknorth Road. This pub is now in residential use.

I used to drink occasionally at the Ranmore Arms. 1971-72 roughly. I was just over legal drinking age. My mate had a car and we used to pile in it on a Friday or Saturday night having met up at the Anchor in Great Bookham. It always felt like a bit of a magical adventure as the non-drivers were usually a bit intoxicated. The Ranmore sold Newcastle Brown at very reasonable prices and there was very warm log fire. I'm sure I fell asleep one night by the fire and awoke to a sea of faces laughing down at me. I remember the place as being rather "ad hoc" old comfortable chairs and settees. There were also rumours of lock ins it being well out of the way. They don't make boozers, with real character, like that any more and I daresay it would be a Harvester or some such abomination were it still open.
