In the 1980’s this was a thriving pub.
With welcoming log fires and a huge Great Dane dog called Mutley. It was a
useful stop between the south coast and London. They have just opened a
little tea shop in part of the building and are in the process of making an
outside garden area. At present it is very small.
It used to be a coaching stop where the horses were rested and folk could
stay overnight and then go on their way. At the time this was the main road
between London and the south and I believe highwaymen and smugglers were
around in the nearby area. |
