The General Abercrombie was situated on Queen Street. This pub closed in the 1980s and has now been demolished and replaced by the houses in the above photo.

John Willsher 1958/1968 At last bell publican would dress in his night clothes & bobbled night hat and say: "lift, shift or double your bets".
is this an old sea going phrase? does anyone know the origin of this phrase please? Mild & bitter was 1/11d per pint.
Yale Levy 1986/1987 I was a regular customer during these years. Made great friends with the pub owners, Bob, Dee and Jim Belding. Would love to reconnect with them if anyone knows their contact info.
