The Brewers Arms was situated on Lewes Road. This pub has now been demolished.

Jack and Ruth Liester were the publicans from 1953 to 19580. They were my grand parents. They also ran a catering business, having a building at the back of pub. Ringmer cricket club took teas there. It was also a food station for 12 hour cycle races. Nan also did individual dinners. A chap who looked after the local hunts hounds came for dinner. James Robertson Justice came as I understand

Information posted by David Connah in November 2016 struck a chord, David mentioned cricket club teas and the pub being a food station for 12 hour cycle time-trial races. The pub was certainly cyclist friendly as I remember going in the pub as an 18/19 year old member of the Central Sussex Cycling Club in 1961 or 1962. On Sundays, when pubs had to close at 2.00pm and couldn’t open until 7.00pm it was common for some to fill the gap by offering teas to cycling clubs. The Brewers Arms was one used regularly by the Central Sussex CC (based in Cuckfield) for tea at the end of a Sunday club run. Tea of sandwiches and cakes was served in a room accessed from the side entrance, where the chestnut tree still stands. We cyclists would park a dozen or so bikes beneath that tree.
