Wigmore Arms

The Wigmore Arms was situated on Wigmore Road. This pub opened in 1926 and closed in 2005. It has now been demolished, with flats built on the site.

It was renamed The Wig and Pen in its later years. As a child in the mid 90s my best mates dad would sometimes take us there on Saturdays in the daytime, buy us bottled lemonade and crisps and taught us how to play pool - to the amusement of some of the punters as neither of us were tall enough to quite manage many of our attempted shots. Fast forward a few years (early 2000s) and as a teenager (some of us might not always get served) a few of us used to frequent what was at this point the Wig and Pen for the kareoke (I think on Thursdays) until one of our crew had one or two too many (proobably snake bite and blacks) vommited and we all got asked to leave. Serves us right for being cocky little shits in retrospect think it was probably just the final straw and a few of the regulars had had enough of us, still it's sad to hear its gone always felt welcoming.
