As of 2025 the wheatsheaf is certainly still open. I am not sure who owns/runs it as despite growing up in Atherstone I have since moved to Nuneaton. I do remember a man called Rod running it sometime in the early 2000's as several of my Dad's mates knew him. He had his licence taken off him several times due to run-ins with various characters in atherstone and I think he gave up trying to run the pub in the end.
