The Ship Inn was situated at the junction of
Sandy Lane and Camp Hill. Originally known as The Anchor, this pub was
extant in the 1570s. The building was used as the headquarters of Prince
Ruperts army in 1643. Demolished in 1867 and rebuilt on the same site, the
replacement pub lasted until the 1970s when it too was demolished to make
way for road replacement works. The Camp Hill Circus traffic island now
occupies the site. |
