The Dun Cow was situated on Rugby Road.
This pub closed in 2002 and was subsequently
demolished and replaced with housing. |

My father was born & brought up in the
village, his family having lived in the village for some 250-300 years. The
Dun Cow was his ‘local’ as he lived just around the corner off Heath Lane.
When I was old enough, I visited the pub alone for a lunchtime drink. I was
refused at the bar – I was affronted! The (very) elderly gentleman who
wouldn’t take my order had recognised my resemblance to my father and
thought it would be funny! He did, however, kindly send over a young man who
did take my order so I wasn’t too miffed… I’ve sat outside many times with
my sisters, parents & grandparents, and was truly sad to find it boarded up
last time I visited the village at the same time understanding that so many
have closed – why would my favourites be spared? Sad Times.. |
