The Hertford Arms was situated at 116 Far
Gosford Street. This pub is now used as a restaurant/bar. |

My father was the landlord of the
Hertford Arms for a short while in the early 1950’s. His name was Sidney
Pollard. He ran the pub for 18 months but I’m not certain precisely when.
What I do know is that we lived there when the Coronation took place in 1953
as I’ve got a photo of the outside of the pub with two enormous flags draped
down the wall. I started school at All Saints School down the road from the
pub. on the corner of a road on the left hand side of Far Gosford Street, in
1953. Dad took over the pub from a chap called Jim who had moved over to
another pub in Coventry called the Bunch of Grapes, but I was too small to
remember any details other than that. |
