The Rose & Woodbine opened in 1898 and was situated at the junction of Stoney Stanton Road and Harnall Lane East, in Hillfields.

My grandparents used to run this pub. It was a huge pub and it is sad to see it closed down. Jack and Rose Hull were my grandparents and they were in the pub until the early 70’s when Jack sadly died. Rose still lives in Coventry and celebrates her 100th birthday soon. Great pub with great regulars. Lots of happy memories. Would love a photo if anyone has any decent ones.

Whilst recently staying in Somerset, England, I was shown a letter written to my grandfather's cousin on 16th December 1940.  The letter states that some family members had been bombed out, another's house had been burned and so all were staying at the Rose and Woodbine Hotel.  Mr and Mrs Stout, other family members, were also at the hotel - I now wonder if by an chance they were the publicans at that time.

James Denning 1982-1987 Worked as barman. John Murphy was landlord.
Robert Hanna 1988-2001 My dad Noel Hanna owned this pub from 1988-2001. Dad did run the pub for a while in 1987 but was moved to run another pub (the potters arms) in potters green, then on to the Whitley social club. 14 months and 7 licensee's later dad bought the Rose & Woodbine from Ansell's brewery in 1988. Best day was a Monday with live music and take your pick. Great old pub with great memories.
