The Wheatsheaf was situated on Upper
Abbey Street. This pub dated back before November 1825 when it belonged to a
Mr. Lingard and was occupied by a landlord called Marler and other tenants.
It was sold for £600. Later landlords were John Randle 1828 and 1841,
William Craner (1850) The Wheatsheaf was rebuilt about 1900 and was
demolished during July and August 1963. A new modern pub has taken its
place, which closed in 2015. It has since been converted into retail
premises. |
